THE STORY
Since 1888, 500 "vedovelle" have quenched the city's thirst.
Their green color identifies all of them except one—the very first one ever placed, which remained in brass and is still in Piazza della Scala today.
Nothing is wasted; the water that flows will later be used to irrigate the fields around Milan.
CURIOSITY
The nickname "vedovelle" refers to the continuous flow of water, reminiscent of the tears of widows.
They are also called "green dragons" because of the dragon-shaped spout, which represents the Visconti biscione.
DID YOU KNOW?
In 2016, Vestrucci redesigned the iconic dragon-shaped spouts in City Life park, replacing them with new ones shaped like the most incredible animals.
Have fun looking for them in the park! Our favorites are the ones shaped like a rabbit, giraffe, elephant, rooster, and octopus.
